The Story of
Pancake Lane Studios

Inspiration
Nestled among the vineyards in the picturesque Niagara Region is the home-based studio on Pancake Lane.

After a long and rewarding career with the Ontario Provincial Police, Dave Homenuck found retirement opening up a whole new world to him.  Relocating back to the farm on which he was born and raised, he found a freedom to pursue an artistic interest that had surfaced.

Enveloped by a panorama of nature...

Building his retirement home with a focus on the surrounding views, he enjoys the panorama of nature around him.  He was more than happy to return to his rural roots and the happy childhood memories of running around those same fields.  Pancake Lane retains its country atmosphere as evidenced by the sight of farmers tending the fields and roadside fruit and vegetable stands along the lane.

He derives his inspiration from this country setting.  From this and an interest in working with copper, Dave has found an exciting and rewarding second career.  The earthiness and warmth of this metal appealed to him and lent itself easily to his craft.

...simple beauty of peasant history...

Drawing from a colourful Russian background, Dave learned that his entrepreneurial spirit has a long family history.  His ancestors included blacksmiths, tailors, shoemakers and other craftsmen.  The simple beauty of this Russian peasant history is brought to life in his designs.  He uses century old techniques and the results are unique handcrafted copper creations.

Extensive travel in recent years has given him an appreciation of other cultures and has broadened his artistic horizons.  During a recent trip to Russia, Dave brought back several select pieces of Kaliningrad amber which have been incorporated into some of his copper pieces.
